The question this page answers
What stops being defended if this commitment ends now, and where does its scope go?
What you see
Retire a commitment ends a declaration early, or withdraws one that was never signed. It is not a close: a close says a season finished and how it went; retiring says a declaration stopped. The head names the commitment and the act, Retire it. For a pending declaration the head says it never signed off and so claims no pool back. What stops being defended is a row set per number: which of the declared numbers stop being armed, and which were recorded only, with no engine holding them. Standing commitments on this book lists the continuity commitments that keep catching once a season ends, with their cover corridors. The ending has two fields: Supersede, if something takes over, a choice of up to two other active commitments, optional; and Why this is ending, required.
The consequences stand before the button, and each is a sentence about this commitment: how many declared numbers stop being armed, or that none was armed and all were recorded only; what returns to the pool, or that no pool is freed because none was declared, or that no pool is claimed back because the declaration never signed off; that nothing is cancelled, nothing moves, and the declared numbers stay on record at their version; and that without a successor the scope is left with no commitment. The residue is never estimated beforehand.
What to do
Retiring takes the Commitments door, an admin or a member given it. Choose successors if something takes the scope over, say why, and press Retire this commitment, or Close and supersede where a successor is named. The receipt is the page becoming the record: Retired or Superseded, what falls out of cover as a count at variant grain, and that the scope's open to buy is free to re-declare from this commit on. Nothing is cancelled and nothing moves. There is no way back: a commitment ends once. To end a boxed season that has run its window, use Close a commitment instead, which scores it. The declaration's head, the room's acts and Work the buy's On this commitment all open this page.
When it is empty or failed
No commitment at this address.
The declaration did not come back.
A commitment that has already ended shows its close on record, who ended it, when and why, in place of the fields:
Already closed.
Retiring claims no pool back; it was never signed off.
A seat without the Commitments door reads:
Retiring a Commitment needs org-admin access.
A missing reason is refused before the press:
Enter a reason to retire this commitment.
The server refuses a second ending on a commitment that has already closed or retired, because a commitment ends once and a second close would record an ending that did not happen. A refused write renders as a card, The close was refused, and says that nothing was written and nothing ended; the fields keep what you typed.
