What it is

The margin floor is the blended margin the season may not close under, declared as a percentage with a basis. It is the third of the five numbers. Like the availability floor it is a floor and carries no band: any week under it is already a deviation, and Tightly never invents a tolerance around it.

How Tightly decides it

The planner declares it on Declare, where the margin row opens at its band floor rather than at a suggestion, and types the figure per channel. Tightly's suggestions read does serve one: the book's own realised margin over the trailing 180 days on the sales whose cost is known, less five points, rounded down, labelled own history. Nothing enforces the floor; it is measured every week, and no verdict proposes a markdown.

Each Monday the verdicts engine measures the realised margin of the week that closed: net sales less the cost of the goods sold, over net sales, taken only over the sales whose cost is known. Where costs are recorded on less than half the week's net sales, the week reads not measured. The share of sales with a known cost travels beside the figure, and so does where the cost came from, because the three rungs of the cost chain are not equal: the cost stamped on the sale itself, the default supplier's cost today, or the variant's own cost today. A margin measured on the first and a margin inferred from the others used to be one number with one name; now the split is served. The same two figures divided the other way give the markup, measured or absent, never assumed. A four-week rolling mean sits beside the week so one odd week does not read as a trend. A week under the floor reads needs review; it turns urgent when the rolling mean is also under the floor or the miss has run three weeks.

The words on the face

WordWhat it means
FloorThe band cell: a floor has no band
holdingThe week's margin sits above the floor
watchA recorded deviation held below the worklist by the money floor
breachedUnder the floor and flagged this week
not measuredCosts were recorded on less than half the week's net sales, so it was not scored
not scoredThe window has not opened, or the first week has not closed

What you can do about it

Declare sets it and Amend moves it, as a new version. A margin under its floor is read in the room, where the next action opens pricing in season and the buy before it. A scenario records what a markdown or a price move would do, as a proposal a person may promote or decline and never as a price written anywhere. Missing costs are the usual reason a week reads not measured: the cost stamped on the sale, the default supplier's cost and the variant's own cost are the three places a cost is read from.

Glossary line

The margin floor is the declared blended margin the season may not close under, scored weekly on the sales whose cost is known; a floor, so it has no band.
