The question this page answers

Where does this order's committed quantity physically go, and what stopped it?

What you see

Allocation on PO-1036, marked 1 to 3.
  1. The mode control, Allocate to locations or Allocate to accounts.
  2. Commit allocation, which records the split; nothing else can see it until this is pressed.
  3. Review capacity limits, a chart of forecast need against what each spoke can hold.

Allocation splits one purchase order's committed units across real locations. It is a commitment's own room, its own row in the rail beside Overview, Buy plan, Forecast, Accounts and Scenarios, open before the season and through it so planned releases can be prepared before launch. A control chooses between Allocate to locations and Allocate to accounts.

Allocating to locations starts with the order: a select lists this commitment's purchase orders, with more loaded on request, and with no order chosen the page reads nothing. An order the split cannot address is not offered, and Unavailable purchase orders, beside the select, counts those. Once an order is chosen, the page states how many units are Proposed out of the order's committed units, with a bar, how many are unallocated, and the reading's window and date. The basis reads Units · current cover · minimum by variant.

Beside the bar, Locations counts destinations offered and Units over shelf capacity counts what would not fit where it is sent. The table has one row per destination: Location (the hub is marked), Channel, Forecast units, On hand, Net need, Proposed units, Constraint and Current cover. Constraint names what held the send back, in words. A location with no channel mapped says so. Where a split has been saved, a switch shows the Saved allocation or the Recommendation, and Proposed units becomes Allocated units. Where there is more than one channel, a channel view narrows the table. Review capacity limits opens a chart of forecast need against what each spoke can hold. Where the hub holds channel earmarks, Channel protection at the hub lists each channel's hard and soft reservations.

Allocating to accounts lists the accounts short on a style: Account, priority, Cut order, Cancellation, Style, Booked, Bought, Short, Standing, the promised and proposed fill, and what shipped, is still open or was withdrawn.

What to do

  1. Choose the purchase order under Allocate to locations; with none chosen the page reads nothing.

  2. Read the bar: how many units are Proposed out of the order's committed units, how many are unallocated, and the reading's window and date.

  3. Use Edit allocation to change the units per destination, or Move units to shift units from one destination to another.

  4. Where one order arrives in several deliveries, press Allocate by delivery instead; see Allocate dated deliveries below.

  5. Press Commit allocation. The drawer says what it moves and what it does not:

Moves no stock, no availability and no money. Until it is recorded the split is a recommendation nothing else in the business can see; the two triggers fire against what is on record.

  6. Once saved, press a row to open its On hand, Send, Need and cover, or Open purchase order to see the order itself.

Recording needs Read & write access. A refused write is stated in one sentence in the drawer, and a write already in flight is refused rather than doubled.

Allocate dated deliveries

Use Allocate by delivery when one purchase order arrives in several deliveries. Each row chooses a product's existing delivery, a destination, units and an optional channel. Save the split, then review it in Saved allocation. The total must fit both the purchase order and each selected delivery; the editor refuses a stale order or an invalid destination.

For a saved split linked to deliveries, choose the delivery before calling off or recording receipt at its destinations. Receipt is limited by the units actually received on that delivery. Use Open purchase order to maintain its delivery schedule; saving an allocation does not record a physical arrival or create a transfer.

When it is empty or failed

Reading this commitment’s orders.

Working out where the order’s units go.

The order book did not answer.

A commitment with no orders reads No purchase orders., and before the season offers Plan the buy. An order that is not on this commitment says so. When no location can take the units:

No eligible destinations. Review the channel forecast and location coverage before allocating this order.

When nothing is allocated yet:

No units allocated yet. Edit the allocation and review destination limits before committing.

A split that could not be worked out is a failed read, not an empty split, and the page says so.
