What it is

A skill is something a person writes once and Tightly then runs without them: it watches for a thing to happen, works out what to do about it, and either tells someone or writes the change itself. Skills are not part of Tightly Lite. Writing one, publishing one and letting one run on your behalf belong to the editions above it.

What Lite's Ask Tightly does instead is narrower, and it answers rather than acts. It shows the ten fixed charts, reports a bug for you, and answers a how-to question from the help centre with a link to the page the answer is about. It performs no act and changes nothing.

How Tightly decides it

By the plan you are on, and by nothing about your seat. A Tightly installed from the Shopify App Store is on Lite whatever else is true of it, and Skills is not part of what a Lite plan carries: the Skills addresses are not in the rail, and every skills request is refused on Lite.

Your role is a separate question and it does not come into this one. On Lite an admin has the same rooms a member does; the plan decides which rooms exist, and the role decides who may write in them.

The words on the face

Nothing inside Tightly on Lite sells you a plan. A Skills address typed on Lite shows the page's name and one sentence naming the plan the room is sold with,

with no list of what it holds and no way to buy. The plan was settled by how Tightly was installed, rather than by anything a person picks inside Tightly.

Where you have read about Skills somewhere else in this help centre, you are reading an article written for the editions that carry them. Tiers is the article that says which edition holds which rooms.

What you can do about it

Some things run without you on Lite already, and it is worth knowing which. Smart Replenishment recalculates what to reorder after each sync of your data, so the answer is ready when you open it. Notifications reach you when a purchase order goes overdue or your sync stops. The Board draws its ten fixed charts from your own data. None of these needs setting up and none of them is a skill you have to write.

For the jobs that are yours to decide, Ask Tightly tells you how to do them and links the page where they are done; the press is yours. Where a job is one you do by hand every week and would rather hand over entirely, the editions above Lite are where that lives. Nothing inside Tightly on Lite sells you one.

Glossary line

A skill is something that runs without you, written with Ask Tightly in a conversation; Tightly Lite has none, and everything on Lite writes on a person's press.
