WhereSetup, the Connect phase

The question this page answers

Where am I in setup, what does this step need, and can I leave and come back? Setup is one wizard in three phases, Connect, Review and Finish. Connect is the first: what kind of company this is, where your data lives, the connection, and the import. You can stop at any step; Tightly brings you back to it.

Two modes

Setup runs in one of two modes, and the mode changes words and doors. Self-serve is the mode of a store install from the App Store listing: nobody at Tightly speaks to you, so the line under the card reads Need help? with two doors, Ask Tightly and Knowledge base. Guided is the mode of every other arrival, an invitation from Tightly or a custom install: a Tightly person is on the plan with you, and the line under the card names them:

Your Tightly contact: {name}.

with Book time beside it; with no name on the plan it reads Need help? with Book time. Before an organisation exists the install the browser is holding decides the mode; after it, the organisation's edition does.

What you see

Setup's system step, marked 1 to 2.
  1. The system card, asking where inventory and orders live.
  2. The two answers, a system Tightly connects to or none at all.

The phase column stands down the left, under the wordmark: the three phases with their steps beneath, the current step marked and the completed ones ticked. A step the wizard skips, such as the sales channel steps for a single-channel book, is absent rather than greyed. The column is not drawn on the first two cards or on a dead end. The card sits at reading width: an eyebrow with the step's position, such as {phase} · Step {n} of {total}, the title, one table or row set, and a footer at one control height, Back, Skip for now where a step is optional, and Continue, disabled with its reason as the word beside it. Return to dashboard appears in the header when another organisation exists; Log out only on a dead end.

The first card, on a Guided arrival, asks

What kind of company is this?

under a welcome such as "Welcome to Tightly, {name}: {contact} invited you to set up {company}.", with three rows, Brand, Retailer and Both, each in the customer's own sentence. The answer sets the words the whole product uses (supplier or vendor, warehouse or store). A store install is not asked it.

On Guided, the system card asks

Where do your items and stock live?

with the basis line System of record and two answers, In a system we run and We do not run one. The first lists the systems of record; the second lists stores under Where you sell and warehouses under Where you ship from. Each table reads Tool and Connects (You sign in, or With credentials); its last row, Not here, reads Ask your Tightly contact to connect another system. A Shopify store connects through an app Tightly prepares: Ask for your install link, whose consequence line reads "Tightly prepares a Shopify app for {shop}. This page shows the install link the moment it is ready.", then Waiting for your install link, then Install Tightly on Shopify.

On Self-serve the card is titled Where does your data live?, lists the store you install from the App Store and Email as Later in setup, and says "Other systems come with Essentials and up." Where the install is already in hand, the store connects as the card mounts and reads Connected · {shop}.

Connect {tool} takes the tool's own credentials, secrets masked with Show, and Connect writes them; where a role has to be built first, the page that builds it is linked above the fields. A connection walks straight on to the import: a second store is not a step of this wizard.

Importing your {source} data shows the seven sets as one table, Data and State, each reading Not started, Syncing…, Synced or Failed in ink with no colour; a Failed set carries its served reason on hover.

{done} of {total} sets are in.

and, once the first pass lands, Your {source} data is in: {total} of {total} sets synced. The as-of reads Synced {when}, or Not yet synced, checked every 30 seconds. Continue waits for the last set; Continue to Home opens Home while the data arrives.

What to do

  1. On a Guided arrival, choose the kind of company (Brand, Retailer or Both) and press Continue.
  2. Pick In a system we run or We do not run one.
  3. Sign in to the system, or type its credentials, and press Connect.
  4. For a Shopify store, press Ask for your install link, then Install Tightly on Shopify once it arrives.
  5. Wait for the import, or press Continue to Home and come back; the data-ready email brings you to Review.

A connection is managed later in Settings, under Integrations.

When it is empty or failed

Setup did not start and no reason came back.

A connection that did not complete prints the server's own sentence where it served one, and otherwise one of

Something went wrong while connecting. Try again.

The integration did not connect. Try again.

Your session expired. Try again.

On Importing:

No system of record connected.

The import status did not load.

Your import has not started; Tightly has been told.

An import that stopped before anything succeeded is the dead end, with its own article.
