The question this page answers
What is on its way back, what came back in the period, and what did the channel refund?
What you see
Returns is the list of every return, newest first, each tied to the order it came off, at its own address. On the Tightly Pro rail it is the room under Orders.
The head is the page's name, with a period select: Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 365 days or All history. The basis line reads Refunds · USD and the period. The figure row carries the units shipped and the return rate over the period, the rate reading Not measured where there is nothing to measure it against. The table can be searched by return or order. The columns are Return, Order, State, Refund, Expected, Received, Due back, Received on and Where; Origin appears only once returns arrive more than one way (Channel, Typed in, CSV, API or Tightly Connect). State is one of five words: On its way back, Received, Closed, Action required, Cancelled. An absent value is a dash in the cell, except Due back, which reads Nothing due where nothing was ever due back.
Pressing a return opens it, headed by its name and its state, with a door back to Returns. Sections: What came back, with Expected, Received, Back on the shelf and What became of it per line; The refund, which is the channel's own fact and is read, never made here, with whether it was refunded in part or in full, the amount, the day and whether it came before or after the goods; What the ledger did, the movements the return wrote; and Status, only where a return needs a person. The Details pane carries the order, the origin and the channel it came from, the reason, where it came back to, and the days it was opened, received and closed, with the note, who opened it and any exchange order where there is one.
What to do
Two acts, and no more. Record what arrived opens a drawer that books, per line, the units received, the units back on the shelf and what became of the rest: the units marked back on the shelf enter stock at the cost they left at. The return closes once everything expected has come back; fewer leaves it Received, and a receipt that does not match what was expected leaves it Action required. The result says how many came back. Cancel this return closes one nobody is going to send: nothing is received, and the units stop counting as inbound. The refund is never an act here; money moves on the channel and Tightly reads it. An act the return's state refuses is not drawn: a return on its way back offers both, one that needs a person offers Record what arrived, and a received return offers neither.
When it is empty or failed
