The question this page answers
For this purchase order, where do its units go: how many to each warehouse serving its channels, how many have nowhere to go, and what stopped each warehouse taking more?
What you see
Allocation is the split of one purchase order across your warehouses, and it is read where the order is: Where it goes is a section of the purchase order, on its Delivery tab under Deliveries. There is no Allocation page and no rail row; the old address lands on the order it names, or on Purchase orders narrowed to Recommended. The way to a split is the order and its menu, the Split filter on Purchase orders, or ⌘K. On Pro an order stamped to a commitment opens that commitment's Allocation wall instead, and the section is absent; an order on Pro that no commitment holds shows the section as on any plan. A transfer order has no split.
The split is computed every time the order is read, from each warehouse's forecast by channel, what is already in place, what its shelves can hold and the supplier's size pack; nothing is stored until you record it. The order's head owns the page's one sentence, basis line and as-of; the section says none while it has a table to draw, and when the engine last worked the split rides the section's name on hover. Its judgement stands as figures under its name, each countable in the rows beneath: On the order; Placed; Nowhere to go, only when some units have none; Shelves refused, only when a declared shelf refused units; the warehouses sent to; and Capacity not declared, out of the warehouses placed against. On the order is placed plus nowhere to go, exactly; the remainder is shown, never shared out. Above the table, one chart, Need and send: one bar per warehouse, its need as the bar and what is sent as the wash inside it, the total need beside the title.
The table is one row per warehouse the split placed against, in the engine's order: Warehouse, with its channels beneath; Need; Forecast; In place; Can hold, Not declared where nobody has said and a declared zero as 0; Send; Size pack, the pack the send was floored to, Not declared where none is on file; Shelf short, what a declared shelf refused; Cover, in days, the minimum across the order's variants, a bound printing with a plus, No forecast or Not measured as its absence; Need met, in points with a meter; and Held by: Shelf space, Size pack, The buy is short or Whole units covered, its clause on hover. A column whose every cell says the same absence word leaves the table; a narrow screen drops the least load-bearing columns; units, horizon and basis ride the headers on hover. Where the book has store clusters, a By group roll-up of the same split follows.
Excluded warehouses is a second reading beneath, folded, with its count: the warehouses the split skipped, each with how many of the order's variants it holds, Can hold where one was declared, and its reason in Held by: No forecast, Stock unknown, Warehouse not active, Covers its own forecast, At shelf capacity. Skipped is excluded, not sent 0; why rides the reading's name on hover. A row's menu, Open the warehouse, opens Settings › Locations.
What to do
Three acts stand in the section's head, and Allocation acts: plan, commit, call off, receipt explains each. Record the split is the one button: it stores the recommendation as read, as the split everyone else sees. Call off and Record receipt sit in the menu beside it: the first asks for the units at the warehouses you tick, the second says the goods have landed there. One act runs at a time. A writing seat presses; a read-only seat reads, the button disabled with needs write access beside it. A split with no unit placed says No unit has a destination. beside the button, before any press.
On Purchase orders the Split filter narrows the book to Recorded, Recommended or Nowhere to go, and only while it is on does the Split column stand, reading the order's state or Not read where the plan has not been read. A line above the book says what the filter cannot see: Nowhere to go counts splits already recorded, so an order nobody has split yet reads Recommended. The word lands on the order with its split scrolled to, so three presses record a split: the word, the act, the confirm.
