## The question this page answers

Which company terms have we declared for this fiscal year, and what stays unmeasured or ungraded until we do?

## What you see

The page is headed Financial assumptions, at Finance and at Settings, one record at two doors. Its basis line reads the fiscal year and USD. Eleven company terms are declared once a fiscal year, and seven stock recovery terms beside them; an undeclared term is unknown, never zero.

Three of the eleven are what no order can supply: the carrying cost, a percentage a year; the opening cash balance, cash on hand entering the plan year; and the cash floor, the least cash you are willing to hold. The other eight are measurable, and last year's own measurement is offered beside each as a seed: return rate, markdown rate, intake margin, lead time and cover target, which a plan is built on, and hurdle, target turn and target sell through, which a closed buy is graded against.

A column of groups runs down the side, opening on Cash limits:

- Merchandise plan costs, the costs included in each merchandise plan.
- Duties & landed costs, reusable estimates for purchase orders and shipments.
- Cash limits: the opening cash balance and the cash floor. Where both are on file and the balance is above zero, a meter draws the balance as the track and the floor as its tick; its words are Above the floor and Held by the floor, and the tick is named Cash floor.
- Planning assumptions: return rate, markdown rate, intake margin, lead time and cover target.
- Investment targets: hurdle, target turn, target sell through and carrying cost.
- Stock recovery: markdown recovery rate, carry to next season, markdown in channel, return to vendor, off-price, donate, and carry cost per week.

Each term is one row: its name, with what it is on hover; the figure on file, or the reason it is missing; the box to set it, with its unit; and the acts. Who declared it, and last year's measurement, stand on a line beneath the figure. A floor declared at zero carries the word may run to nil, because a zero floor is a real answer. Save appears beside a value the moment it changes; Use measured types last year's figure into the box and saves nothing; the menu beside a declared figure carries Clear. A box that cannot be saved says why in ink beside it, such as That is not a number, Cannot be negative, A rate cannot pass 100%, Whole weeks only, or Larger than we can store.

## Declared where they are used

The same terms are typed on the pages that need them, through one act, Declare, opening one drawer titled Financial assumptions. [The cash gate](../finance/cash-gate) declares the opening balance and the cash floor; [Investment review](../finance/investment-review) declares the carrying cost and the hurdle; [the buy plan](../finance/buy-plan) opens the opening balance, the cash floor and the carrying cost. The drawer reads back what is on file and who declared it, and prints what becomes true before its one button:

> Returned nets carry at this rate, and Per dollar with it.

> The cash ladder walks a running balance from the first week on.

> Every week is measured against this floor, and a breach is named.

Emptying a declared box and saving clears it, and the consequence says so. The receipt renders where the button was, one row per figure written, with Put back beside it. Under an opening balance on file the cash gate's drawer says week not on file. The drawers and the page write the same record, so no two faces can disagree.

## What to do

Type a number and Save; each term is saved on its own, never on blur. Clear returns a term to undeclared, which is a different state from a declared zero. Only an admin can change these; any other seat reads the page with the sentence Only an admin can change these. Tightly refuses a figure outside a term's range in its own sentence, and refuses a field the record does not know rather than ignoring it, so nobody believes a misspelt key was stored. Nothing here places an order or edits a commitment.

## When it is empty or failed

> This setting did not load

The read failed, with Try again beside it.

> Reading the declarations.

Off Tightly Pro, the Settings address carries no page of its own: a plan the room is not part of reads the [for-sale page](../platform/for-sale-pages) shared with Approvals, with Billing as its one door, and the Finance address shows the Pro refusal.
