## The sentence

On [Work the buy](../commitments/the-desk), where the styles of a commitment scoped to a channel would be worked:

> A channel commitment has no styles to work, because orders carry no channel.

On [Open to buy](../commitments/open-to-buy), a channel commitment now gets its money grid. Only where your book cannot yet hold a plan by channel does the read refuse it whole, in this sentence:

> A channel commitment has no category money position, because stock and orders carry no channel.

## What it means

A commitment can be scoped to what you sell, a category, a collection or a set of styles, or to where you sell it, a channel. Stock sits in a warehouse and a purchase order is placed for a product, and neither carries a channel. So nothing on the shelf or on order can be attributed to a channel commitment, and a position made up from it would be a figure nobody could tie.

On Open to buy the grid still draws for a channel commitment: its plan is what somebody types there, month by month, and stock and placed orders are left out rather than shown as zero, each with its reason on the read. It is not a failed read, which says that it failed and shows no figures. The desk cannot do the same, because it works styles by what is on order, and orders carry no channel.

The sentence is an answer, not an error page and not an empty position. The commitment exists and its terms are declared. The book's position read carries its envelope as not computed with a stated reason rather than a zero, and never as on track, and its weekly verdicts run, with any number that needs stock or orders stated as not measured and why. And it is not a refusal of the commitment itself: a channel is exactly what a planner selling through accounts declares.

## What to do next

Nothing on the desk clears it; the sentence is the shape of a channel scope. Plan the channel's money on Open to buy, read its envelope on [the declaration](../commitments/the-declaration), its weekly verdicts on Selling periods, and the account book on Tightly Connect, where what each account has booked against the commitment is the channel's only orders. Where you need a category position as well, a second commitment scoped to the category carries it; the two are read side by side and neither owns the other's money.
