## The question this page answers

How much cash is in this book's stock, how old is it, and which way is it moving?

## What you see

Capital reads the money in a commitment's stock. It is offered once a boxed season's window has ended, or the season is closed, under the room's Close the book tab, beside Close the book, Finish clean and Hindsight.

Stock ageing comes first, dated to its reading day. Two buttons choose how stock is aged: Latest receipt or Season. The table lists each Age band with its Units, Stock at cost and Share, and on the season view a Proposed provision. Supplier performance follows: Supplier, Orders, Received / ordered, On time, Partial lines and Unit cost range, with an Orders button that opens that supplier's purchase orders.

Beneath, the commitment's category is read at each of the last twelve month ends, ending with the last month that has closed before today; the current month has no closing balance yet. Months of supply is read from what the category sold. Stock value change says how much the balance moved and whether it is up, down or level. Where the stock was counted late the figures say how late, and where the balance cannot be read they give the reason. Where more than one month end was counted, Stock value at cost draws the month ends as a line for the category; pressing a month opens stock on hand at that month end. The balance is read only for a commitment scoped to a category.

## What to do

Nothing here writes. The doors are Open to buy, while the commitment is not closed; Investment review, which opens the investment review in Finance; and Stock at the last counted month, which opens stock on hand at that month end for this category. [Finish clean](../commitments/finish-clean) is where the leftovers are routed and the close is recorded. [Capital quadrants](../product/capital-quadrants) is the same money read by variant and location across the catalogue.

## When it is empty or failed

When the ageing read fails, the card reads Review unavailable, with Retry. A band or supplier with no figure shows a dash rather than a zero. A month that was not counted keeps its place, the line breaks there rather than drawing a balance nobody measured, and Stock value change reads not counted rather than zero. A commitment that names no category has no month-end balance to read.
